Our Podiatrists in Pueblo, Pueblo West, CO specialize in Diabetic Foot Care & Wound Care
DIABETIC FOOT CARE
Diabetes has become an epidemic in this country. If you have diabetes it is essential that you have your feet evaluated by a podiatrist.
Diabetics are prone to poor circulation, have a weakened immune system and impaired nerve function in their feet. Due to poor circulation or lack of sensation after poor circulation, diabetic feet are more susceptible to developing sores, and non-healing wounds which may lead to ulcers. These wounds can also develop into serious infections which can lead to amputations, loss of limbs and even loss of life.
With diabetes, you also have a good chance of developing peripheral neuropathy. Symptoms of peripheral neuropathy can be pain, numbness, tingling and burning sensation in your feet.
We recommend that you come in for a comprehensive diabetic foot evaluation. We will use the latest technology to test and assess the circulation to your feet, and determine if you have peripheral neuropathy. Once the evaluation is complete, We will design a treatment plan specifically for you.
If you're a diabetic, contact Pueblo Ankle and Foot Care for a complete evaluation immediately, so that we can provide you with the care you'll need to minimize possible complications.
DIABETIC SHOE PROGRAM
Diabetic shoes are designed and manufactured to the highest standards of foot wellness, especially for people living with diabetes and other health conditions that affect their feet — including swelling, bunions, hammertoes and more.
Based on more than 25 years of footwear design experience and with input from board-certified podiatrists, our selection of shoes are made using only the finest quality materials — so they’re as fashionable as they are comfortable and healthy for your feet. Most styles are available in a full range of sizes and difficult-to-fit widths.
We can also prescribe a pair of custom made shoes to help manage many foot health conditions.
Purchasing Our Shoes
Our shoes aren’t available in traditional shoe stores, but you can talk to one of our qualified podiatrists or shoe fitter to be examined and measured for a pair of diabetic shoes.
The cost of our shoes — and custom inserts — may be covered by Medicare and your supplementary insurance if you have diabetes. Find out if you qualify.
Since 1993, Medicare Part B has provided partial reimbursement for extra-depth shoes and inserts for qualifying patients with diabetes. Medical experts agree that many amputations resulting from diabetes-related foot complications can be prevented by appropriate, properly fitting footwear. The classic craftsmanship and sophisticated style of Diabetic shoes are desirable for anyone in search of the finest quality in a comfort shoe. Designed as a diabetic shoe, we also provide many protective and comfort features for all to love. Prescription diabetic footwear can help prevent more serious foot health complications that can arise as a result of diabetes. Medicare and supplemental insurance may reimburse for all or part of the cost of diabetic shoes and prescription inserts for diabetics who meet certain general criteria. Any of our Podiatrists at Pueblo Ankle and Foot Care can determine if you are eligible. If you suffer from diabetes or any foot health concerns, we strongly encourage you to schedule an appointment with one of our podiatrists to ensure all of your foot health needs are properly addressed.
Diabetic inserts are designed to provide the perfect fit for wearers living with diabetes, arthritis and a range of other medical conditions. For people who just want to take care of their feet, too.
The specific diabetic inserts we recommend for our patients are heat moldable and are a multi density insert that are designed to be supportive and reduce the risk of diabetic foot ulcers. Most Diabetics receiving diabetic shoes from our office will receive 3 pairs of heat moldable inserts, unless a custom pair of inserts have been casted or recommended to the patient. These 3 pair of inserts will be worn individually and rotated weekly through the entire lifetime of the diabetic shoes, usually 1 year.
For our heat-moldable inserts or custom orthotics unique for your feet, talk to one of our podiatrists or our shoe fitter.
All styles of Diabetic socks are designed and manufactured with your foot health in mind. They’re perfect for people living with diabetes, arthritis, edema, neuropathy and circulation issues.
They’re available in a range of men’s and women’s sizes, and ankle or crew or high styles. And the dye in our colored socks doesn’t bleed out of the fabric, reducing your risk of foot infection.
